Minister of State, Sean Sherlock T.D. introduces Irish Aid’s new Framework for Action
"Ireland’s new Policy on International Development, One World One Future, agreed last year by Government, reaffirms our proud national commitment to development cooperation, and places the fight against global poverty as a central pillar of Ireland’s foreign policy.
The new policy also signals exciting new directions for our Irish Aid programme, and sets out in very clear terms a new policy and programming agenda for the coming years.
One World One Future commits us to refresh our approach to development cooperation, to maximise our impact by further prioritisation, and to focus even more intently on the results that we and our partners are achieving.
However, as we know, policies are only useful if they are implemented, and the challenge always lies in translating policy into practice. Therefore it was recognised from the outset that an implementation framework would be needed to provide direction on how to achieve the various goals and priorities described in the policy.
This Framework for Action aims to provide this direction and to guide all policy and programming decisions on the Irish Aid programme between now and 2017, enabling us to strengthen the effectiveness, accountability and impact of the programme, thereby ensuring that our policy commitments are met.
Achieving the Government’s goals on development cooperation will take considerable effort and commitment. I am fully committed to leading on the delivery of the commitments of One World One Future. Through the application of this Framework, we will become more focussed, build on our strengths and experience, and achieve maximum impact for every Euro spent. We will use this Framework to report back to the Irish people on how we are achieving our objectives in tackling global poverty and inequality."
