Welcome
I invite you to find out how we in Ireland are contributing to the fight against world hunger and poverty and the positive impact Irish Aid support has had for poor people and communities in the developing world.
Something we can all be proud of
I believe that people in Ireland need to know how their contribution is reaching the poor and making a difference. Irish people can be proud of their aid programme, which is managed by Irish Aid in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. We have worked hard to ensure that the international community remains focused on tackling global hunger and under nutrition under the Millennium Development Goals and beyond 2015
My hope is that by reading through some of the inspirational stories you will find on our website, you will be able to understand and take pride in the work taking place.
Together with our partners, Irish Aid is achieving important changes for the better in the lives of the world’ poorest and most vulnerable people.
The good news is that the least developed countries with which Irish Aid works are showing real progress in terms of the health of their citizens, educational attainment and reduced levels of poverty.
You will find examples of how Irish Aid prioritises accountability and strives to make the most effective use of resources.
Our commitment
We know all too well that these are very difficult times for people in Ireland. The Government’s absolute priority is to continue to restore jobs and growth in Ireland. However, we have given a commitment that we will not do so at the expense of the poorest families and communities in the most fragile countries in the world.
This work is central to Ireland’s foreign policy. We will continue helping to build better futures for the world’s poorest communities. We do this because it is right, because it is in keeping with the values and the experiences of the Irish people, and because it is in our interests as a small country in an increasingly interconnected world.
