Ireland’s Rapid Response Initiative

Ireland’s Rapid Response Initiative is a central feature of our humanitarian programme since 2007 and is underpinned by Ireland’s Humanitarian Assistance Policy 2015.

The Rapid Response Initiative is an operational tool designed to saves lives, alleviate suffering and maintain human dignity before, during and in the aftermath of humanitarian crises.

Under the Rapid Response Initiative, Ireland aims to meet the most basic needs of crisis affected people, with a particular focus on conflict-related, protracted, forgotten and underfunded crises, as well as sudden onset emergencies such as earthquakes, hurricanes and typhoons. We do so by responding in a practical way to such crises, sending in emergency relief supplies and deploying highly-skilled personnel to our UN partners as surge capacity.
