Minister Joe McHugh at the launch of the 2017 Our World Irish Aid Awards

The Launch of the Our World Irish Aid Awards 2017 took place on Monday at Scoil Naomh Fiachra, Letterkenny, Donegal. The Awards were launched by the Minister for the Diaspora and International Development Joe McHugh, TD, with the help of the wonderful pupils and their teachers, and Principal Luke Kilcoyne. Having achieved the School of Development Distinction Award in the Awards in 2016, Scoil Naomh Fiachra was very enthusiastic about getting involved in the Our World Awards again this year, and especially liked the new theme: “For People and Planet”.

Minister McHugh met with these young 4th class pupils and their teacher Jane McGinley, and heard about their views on the Awards as well as answering their many questions about the work he does in his role as Minister for International Development. The pupils who are very enthusiastic supporters of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and of Irish Aid’s work, talked about ways they could contribute as young people and how they are looking forward to taking part in the 2017 Awards.
